MADCOOLConnect Confidential — Investor Review
The Build Approach

How we'll build MADCOOL Connect.

Building a fully integrated content operating system is technically complex — but MADCOOL Connect doesn't need to replace the entire media tech stack on day one. The realistic path is to start as the system of record, then let the intelligence layer compound from there.

The Thesis

Don't replace the stack. Sit above it.

The fragmented stack proves the market need. MADCOOL Connect's MVP isn't a re-bundle of 15 SaaS tools — it's the system of record and intelligence layer that connects the workflow around the project / IP record.

Specialized tools stay specialized. MADCOOL Connect captures the data, runs the workflow, and produces the studio intelligence — and selectively integrates with the rest only when it makes commercial sense.

Build the moat. Integrate the plumbing. Keep specialized utilities specialized.

Build · Integrate · Defer

Moat vs. plumbing — a clear-eyed split.

The strategic question for every feature: does this create MADCOOL's moat, or is it plumbing? Build the moat. Integrate the plumbing. Defer the rest until it's earned.

Build natively

The moat

Unique to our operating model and central to data advantage.

  • Universal project / IP record
  • Creator & project pipeline
  • Development & greenlight workflow
  • Production workflow templates
  • Deliverables & rights tracking
  • Distribution / release planner
  • Phase-level cost intelligence
  • Brand deliverables & advertiser reporting
  • Creator collaboration matching
  • AI-assisted planning & impact reporting
If proprietary data makes it smarter, we own it.
Integrate, don't rebuild

The plumbing

Specialized utilities that already exist — link out and capture metadata.

  • Storage → Drive · Dropbox · LucidLink · Iconik
  • Creative review → Frame.io
  • Accounting → QuickBooks · Xero · Ramp · Bill.com
  • Contracts → DocuSign · Dropbox Sign · Ironclad
  • Social publishing → Sprout · Hootsuite · Later
  • FAST / CTV → Amagi · Wurl partner reports
  • Transcoding / packaging → existing vendors
  • Creator intel → CSV → paid (CreatorIQ / Tubular) only at scale
  • Rights → Rightsline only when complexity demands it
  • Transcription → Fathom · Otter · Fireflies
Track the metadata. Let specialists keep specializing.
Defer / never build

Out of scope

Different businesses. Building these would dilute focus and burn capital.

  • Full CRM (Salesforce-replacement)
  • Full video storage infrastructure (LucidLink)
  • Full review platform (Frame.io)
  • Full rights engine (Rightsline)
  • Full social scheduler (Sprout)
  • Full FAST / CTV distribution (Amagi · Wurl)
  • Full accounting / payroll system
  • Full transcription engine
  • Direct publishing across every platform
  • Custom AI model training (early)
"Does this create the moat — or is it plumbing?"

Risks & Solves

Ten things to watch — and how we get past each.

The platform's hardest problems aren't surprises. We've named them and built the solve into the architecture.

01
Scope creep Start with the spine. Project record → workflow → cost → deliverables → distribution → performance. The "operating system" without trying to replace every specialized tool.
02
Data-model complexity Universal project / IP record at the center. Unique IDs for creator, project, episode, asset, platform version, brand deliverable, rights — so reporting can connect across all of them.
03
Inconsistent third-party APIs Three-stage integration. Manual / CSV ingestion first. Semi-automated connectors next. Partner deep-integrations only when there's commercial demand.
04
Cross-platform analytics aren't apples-to-apples Normalize, don't unify. Group platform metrics into reporting categories — reach, engagement, depth, retention, audience, cost efficiency, brand value, impact. Show both native and normalized.
05
Rights & legal complexity Make rights visible & trackable first. Structured fields, status, owner, territories, exclusivity, risk flags. A full legal engine can come later.
06
Asset management is technically heavy Be the intelligence layer, not the storage layer. Track metadata, links, versions, approvals, rights status — files stay in Drive, LucidLink, Frame.io, Iconik.
07
Workflow flexibility vs. standardization Configurable templates per content type — short-form social, podcast, branded, FAST episode, local story, creator collab — all with the same standard phases.
08
AI hype & over-promising Phase AI carefully. Workflow assist now (summaries, briefs, status updates). Intelligence and recommendations later, once data is structured and proprietary.
09
User adoption Feel like a production assistant, not enterprise software. Fewer fields. Role-based views. AI summaries. Mobile approvals. "What needs my attention" by default.
10
Buyer vs. user mismatch Build role-specific views. CEO wants studio intelligence. Producers want task simplicity. Advertisers want campaign reporting. Creators want minimal friction.
Intelligence Maturity

From AI-enabled software to an agentic operating system.

MADCOOL Connect doesn't start agentic. It earns it. The platform moves from helping users do work, to spotting issues with workflow context, to taking goal-directed action within human guardrails.

Phase 1 · MVP

AI-enabled

Helps users do the work faster
  • Summarize creator meetings & notes
  • Draft creative briefs & status updates
  • Generate task lists & checklists
  • Draft advertiser wrap reports
  • Tag assets & metadata
Phase 2 · Workflow context

AI-assisted

Spots issues using project context
  • "This creator agreement isn't complete."
  • "This brand campaign is missing 3 cutdowns."
  • "This project is 12 days over development median."
  • "Post-prod cost above format average."
  • "This creator outperforms on short-form."
Phase 3 · Operating intelligence

Agentic

Acts within rules & permissions
  • Auto-create production checklist on greenlight
  • Notify business affairs on rights gap
  • Draft brand approval & advertiser reports
  • Recommend creator pairings + asset reuse
  • Surface what to make next
Prerequisites for agentic capability

Four things have to be true.

1. Structured data

Reliable records on creators, projects, stages, costs, deliverables, rights, performance.

2. Repeatable workflows

Templates for intake, greenlight, branded content, FAST delivery, collaborations.

3. Permissions & rules

Clear guardrails: the system can draft, flag, recommend — humans approve.

4. Enough historical data

Completed projects to learn from — what performed, what cost too much, what to do next.

MADCOOL Connect evolves from software that tracks content production to software that actively helps run it — with humans still making the creative, financial, legal, and brand decisions.
